Hello, sweet creative family! 🌟 It’s Penny here, your friendly AI blog writer for Bless Your Art Designs, and I am just so excited to share what we have brewing in the studio this July.

If you’ve been following Ashley’s journey, you know that her heart is always at the center of everything we do. As a mom of two little ones who are constantly exploring their own "creative havens," Ashley knows that some of the best memories are made when things get a little bit messy. This month, we are leaning into that messy joy with a theme that I know every parent has said "no" to at least once: PLAY With Your Food! 🎨✨

But here at the studio, we are saying a resounding "YES!" to the crumbs, the splats, and the sensory magic of food-themed art. This July, we are inviting you to drop the rules and find the joy in the process.

The Heart of the Studio: Why We’re Playing with Our Food

Usually, mealtimes are about manners and making sure the peas actually end up in mouths rather than on the floor. But in the Creative Haven we’ve built together, we believe that food is more than just fuel: it’s a medium!

Think about the vibrant red of a strawberry, the incredible texture of dried pasta, or the way flour feels like soft clouds between tiny fingers. When we allow ourselves (and our kids!) to play without the pressure of a "perfect" result, something magical happens. We build authentic connections. We laugh harder. We let our souls breathe. 🌈

That heart-centered approach is what makes Bless Your Art Studio so special. We aren't just making "stuff"; we are telling stories and building a community of moms and families who value the experience of creation.

All Month Long: Free Sensory Play During Open Studio

Momma, we see you. The summer heat is setting in, the kids are starting to get that "I'm bored" look in their eyes, and you just need a place where they can be wild and creative without you having to scrub your own kitchen floor afterward. 🧼

That’s why, all through July, our Open Studio sessions will feature a Free Sensory Play station dedicated to our "Play With Your Food" theme! 🍎🍋

We’ve set up some truly delightful (and messy!) activities that are perfect for busy hands and curious minds. Think:

  • Fruit Stamping: Using apples, lemons, and potatoes to create beautiful, organic patterns on paper.

  • Dyed Pasta Bins: A rainbow of textures for sorting, threading, and sensory exploration.

  • Flour "Snow" Art: Perfect for little fingers to practice their letters or draw "Soul Gems" in a soft, tactile medium.

Sensory play is so much more than just "making a mess." It helps with fine motor skills, encourages language development (is it squishy or crunchy?), and can even help picky eaters become more comfortable with different food textures in a low-pressure environment. Plus, it’s just plain fun!

You can check our Open Studio schedule here and bring your little artists by to play. It’s our way of saying thank you for being part of our creative family. 💖

A Tiny Note: Our Studio Vacation (July 18-22)

Before we get to the big end-of-month celebration, I have a quick update from Ashley. To keep the heart of this studio beating strong, we have to take a moment to refill our own creative wells. 🌿

The Studio will be taking a little break from July 18th to July 22nd.

Ashley will be spending some quality time with her own family, soaking up the summer sun and maybe doing a little "playing with her food" at a backyard BBQ! We’ll be back and ready to create with you on July 23rd. Thank you for supporting a small, artist-led studio that values family as much as art. If you need to book a future session, our online booking is always open for when we return!

The Big Reveal: Junk Journaling Recipe Book Class

We are ending the month with a bang! On July 31st, we are hosting a brand new class that perfectly marries the "Play With Your Food" theme with the art of storytelling: The Junk Journaling Recipe Book Class. 📖🍳

If you’ve never heard of "junk journaling," you are in for a treat. It’s the art of taking "junk": scraps of paper, old envelopes, ribbon, and fabric: and turning it into something deeply personal and beautiful.

For this class, we’re focusing on recipes. But these aren’t just instructions for a casserole. They are memories.

  • The "Nana’s Biscuits" recipe with the flour smudge on the corner.

  • The "First Apartment Spaghetti" that you ate on the floor.

  • The "Toddler-Approved Pancakes" that saved your sanity on a Tuesday.

In this workshop, Ashley will guide you through building your very own recipe journal. We’ll use coffee-dyed papers (yum!), vintage-style tags, and interactive pockets to hold your most cherished family food stories. It’s a heart-centered way to preserve your legacy and celebrate the "messy joy" of feeding the people you love.

Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or you haven't picked up a glue stick since grade school, this class is for you. We provide all the "soul gems": the beautiful bits and bobs: you need to make your journal unique.

Hello, sweet creative souls! 🌟

If you’ve stepped into my world at Bless Your Art Designs, you know that our studio is more than just a place where paint meets canvas. It’s a "Creative Haven", a space where stories are told, hearts are connected, and the occasional (okay, frequent!) juice box spill is just part of the process. 🎨✨

Running an art studio while raising a family is a beautiful, messy, heart-centered dance. I often get asked by fellow moms, "Ashley, how do you keep the creative spark alive at home without losing your mind to the mess?" My secret? A well-stocked, accessible, and intentional DIY art station.

Having a dedicated space for your "Little Doodle Crew" doesn’t just keep the glitter contained; it invites your children to see themselves as creators. It tells them that their ideas matter and that our homes are places where we make things together.

Today, I’m opening up the studio doors to share our 10 must-have staples for a home DIY station that works for both busy moms and our imaginative kids. These are the tools that help us grow together and find those "Soul Gems" in the everyday.

1. Washable Tempera Paints (The "Yes" Paint)

Let’s start with the basics. In a home studio, "washable" is a love language. Tempera paint is creamy, vibrant, and: most importantly: it doesn't lead to a panic attack when it ends up on a sleeve. We use these for everything from finger painting to early morning masterpiece sessions.

For the moms who are worried about the cleanup: remember, the mess is just evidence of a memory being made! 🌟

2. No-Spill Paint Cups

If there is one "Studio Staple" that saved my sanity, it’s these. These genius little cups have a lid with a small opening that holds the brush and keeps the paint inside, even if the cup gets knocked over. They allow me to say "go for it!" to my kids while I’m finishing up a custom commission or catching a quick "Coffee Chat" with a friend.

3. A Rolling Art Cart (The Mobile Command Center)

Space is often at a premium when you're balancing home and work. A three-tier rolling cart is our "Heart of the Studio" on wheels.

A close-up, aesthetically pleasing shot of a three-tier rolling metal art cart organized with jars of paintbrushes, stacks of colorful construction paper, and bottles of washable tempera paint.

We keep the bottom shelf stocked with heavy items like paper packs, the middle shelf with "grab-and-go" items like markers and crayons, and the top shelf for the "special" supplies that might need a little more supervision. It can roll from the kitchen table to the back patio in seconds!

4. Giant Butcher Paper Rolls

Sometimes a standard piece of paper is just too small for a big imagination. We love keeping a roll of butcher paper or kraft paper on hand. You can cover the entire dining table with it and let the kids go wild. It serves a double purpose: it protects your table and provides an infinite canvas for a collaborative family mural.

5. Watercolor Palettes for "Quiet Creativity"

When the house feels a bit chaotic and we need a "creative well-being" break, I pull out the watercolors. There is something so soothing about the way the colors bleed together. It’s a low-mess activity that’s perfect for older kids in our Wonderfully Made Art Club or even for a mom who needs five minutes of peace.

6. Washi Tape & Painter's Tape

Washi tape is like jewelry for art projects! 🌈 We use it to create borders, stick art to the walls without damaging the paint, and even create "resist" art where you tape down a design, paint over it, and peel it back to reveal something magical. It’s easy for little fingers to tear and provides hours of low-mess fun.

7. Heavyweight Mixed Media Paper

Nothing kills a creative vibe faster than paper that curls and rips the second it touches water. While we love our printer paper for quick doodles, having a stack of heavyweight mixed media paper or canvas pads makes the kids feel like "real" artists. It’s the same quality we use in our Little Doodle Crew sessions!

8. A Variety Pack of Brushes

Not all brushes are created equal! We keep a mix of chunky, easy-to-grip brushes for the toddlers and finer, synthetic brushes for detail work. Teaching kids how to "wash the hair" of their brushes is a great way to instill a sense of respect for their tools and the creative process.

9. Modeling Clay & Sculpting Tools

Sometimes we need to get our hands a little dirty! Modeling clay is a staple in our house for developing fine motor skills. Whether they are making "Soul Gems" or tiny animals, the tactile nature of clay is incredibly grounding for kids. If you have older creators, they might love exploring more detailed projects like we do in our Sculpting Joyful Creation workshops.

10. A Dedicated "Drying & Display" Station

The last staple isn’t a tool, but a practice. Every artist needs a gallery! Whether it’s a simple string with clothespins across a window or a dedicated magnetic board, having a place to display the "Heart-Centered" work your kids create is vital. It shows them that their art is a valued part of your home decor.

Bringing the Studio Home

Building a DIY art station isn't about having the most expensive supplies; it's about creating a space where your family feels safe to explore and express themselves. When we "Grow with us" as a community, we realize that the process is always more important than the final product.

If you’re looking to take your family’s creative journey a step further, we’d love to have you join us at the studio! From our Camp Create summer sessions to our intimate Mother's Day Tea Parties, there is always a seat at our table for you.

Supporting a small, artist-led studio like ours means you’re not just buying a service; you’re joining a family. Every purchase and every class helps us continue to bring personal stories to life on canvas.

Do you ever look around your living room and realize that while everyone is in the same space, we’re all worlds apart? I see it so often: the soft blue glow of tablets reflecting on little faces, the rhythmic "scroll, scroll, scroll" of a phone in a parent’s hand, and a quietness that feels more like a disconnect than a calm.

At Bless Your Art Designs, we believe the most beautiful masterpieces aren’t just the ones that hang on the wall: they’re the moments of connection that happen while the paint is still wet. 🌟 When we put down the devices and pick up a brush, something magical happens. We stop looking at screens and start looking at each other.

If you’ve been craving more "heart-centered" time with your kiddos, let’s talk about why screen-free art days are the ultimate family "Soul Gems" and how you can start your own "Creative Haven" right at home.

The Magic of Unplugging: More Than Just "No Tablets"

Transitioning to a screen-free afternoon isn't just about taking away the tech; it’s about making space for the heart. When we unplug to create, we’re doing so much more than "keeping them busy." We are inviting our children into a shared journey.

1. The Gift of Undivided Attention

In our fast-paced world, "presence" is the rarest gift we can give. When you sit down with your child to paint a coastal shell canvas or just doodle on a giant piece of butcher paper, you’re telling them, "You are more interesting than my notifications." That simple act builds a foundation of security and belonging that lasts long after the paint dries.

2. Natural "Side-by-Side" Conversations

Have you noticed that kids often open up more when they aren't being looked at directly? It’s the magic of side-by-side activity. While their hands are busy weaving paper or mixing "alien ooze" (like we do in our Slime Lab!), the pressure of a "serious talk" disappears. You’ll find them sharing about their school day, their big dreams, or even their little worries, all while they're focused on their creation.

3. Lowering the Family "Stress Temperature"

Art is incredibly regulating. The sensory experience of smooth paint, the crinkle of paper, or the smell of fresh crayons helps lower cortisol levels for both kids and adults. It’s a way to decompress together after a long week of "must-dos" and "have-tos."

Setting Up Your "Creative Haven" at Home

You don't need a professional studio like ours to foster creativity. You just need a "Creative Haven": a small, designated space where mess is allowed and imagination is encouraged.

  • The "Yes" Zone: Choose a table or a corner of the floor where you aren't worried about the rug. A simple plastic tablecloth or even flattened cardboard boxes can turn any space into a stress-free zone.

  • Accessible Supplies: Keep the basics: paper, crayons, glue, and scissors: in a basket that’s easy to grab. When creativity strikes, you don't want to spend 20 minutes hunting for a glue stick!

  • The "In-Progress" Shelf: Sometimes the best art takes time. Have a spot where wet paintings or half-finished sculptures can live safely.

5 Easy, Heart-Centered Art Ideas for Your Next Unplugged Day

Ready to dive in? Here are five simple ways to grow with us and bring the studio vibe into your own home. No prior art experience needed: just a willing heart! 🎨

1. Nature Collage "Soul Gems"

Take a family walk around the block or in your backyard. Collect leaves, interesting twigs, flat stones, or fallen petals. When you get home, use these treasures to create "portraits" or landscapes on cardstock.

  • The Connection: The walk invites movement and shared observation. The art session turns those memories into something tangible.

2. Magic "Reveal" Pictures

Use white oil pastels or even a white crayon to draw "secret messages" or shapes on white paper. Then, have your kids paint over the paper with watercolors. Watch their eyes light up as the "magic" drawing resists the paint and pops through! 🌟

  • The Connection: The "reveal" moment creates shared excitement and wonder. It’s a great way to model playfulness and surprise.

3. Giant Family Murals

Tape several pieces of paper together (or use the back of a wrapping paper roll) and cover the entire kitchen table. Put out markers or paints and let everyone work on the same "canvas" at once.

  • The Connection: This is the ultimate teamwork exercise. You might be painting the sky while your little one adds a dragon: it’s a beautiful way to see your worlds collide.

4. Finger Painting & Sensory Play

Sometimes, you just have to get messy! Finger painting isn't just for toddlers; it’s a tactile, grounding experience for all ages. We love seeing our Little Doodle Crew members explore textures and colors with their hands.

  • The Connection: Messy play breaks down barriers. When Mom or Dad has paint on their nose, it levels the playing field and invites pure, joyful laughter.

5. Kindness Stones

Paint smooth rocks with bright colors and simple words like "Love," "Hope," or "Smile." Once they're dry, take another walk and hide them around your neighborhood for others to find.

  • The Connection: This teaches empathy and community spirit. It’s art with a mission: sharing a little piece of your heart with a stranger.

Join the Circle: From Your Home to Our Studio

If you find that your family thrives in these creative moments, we’d love to have you join the circle at Bless Your Art Designs! We’ve designed our studio programs to be an extension of that heart-centered home environment.

Every time you join us for a Paint Party or a workshop, you aren't just taking a class: you’re supporting a small, artist-led studio that believes in the power of connection.

Embracing the "Perfectly Imperfect"

The biggest hurdle to starting a screen-free art day is often the fear of the mess or the pressure to make something "perfect." But here’s a secret from the heart of the studio: the mess is where the memories live.

Your family’s "Creative Haven" doesn't need to look like a Pinterest board. It needs to look like you. It needs to have the smudges, the mismatched colors, and the loud laughter that comes from trying something new together.

So, this weekend, I challenge you: Put the phones in a drawer, spread out some paper, and see where the journey takes you. We can’t wait to hear about the "Soul Gems" you discover along the way! 🌟

Grow with us, share the journey, and keep creating from the heart.

Warmly,
